Traditional Religious Education

About The Program

Traditional RE is a program that provides religious formation opportunities for elementary school students. It takes place in a parish setting where instruction is based on the standard classroom arrangement, with the catechist taking the lead in imparting the faith and engaging the students in activities and assignments as found in the workbooks and activity books. Children are engaged through videos, stories, Scripture, prayer, and reflections combined with various teaching methods to learn more about their Faith and to experience community.

Genesis

Grade 1 to Grade 3 meet in individual grade levels, for a program called GENESIS, as they begin their “Journey of Faith” in preparation for the reception of their sacraments of initiation.

Off Track

Grades 4 and 5, who are still in the process of initial formation are considered “OFF TRACK” and are being prepared to complete their sacraments of initiation, meet all together for a program called GENESIS, as they begin their “Journey of Faith” in preparation for the reception of their sacraments of initiation. “The reception of…these Sacraments… is an indispensable moment in the life of all Catholics, and its celebration is of importance for the Church. In the renewal of the Sacraments, mandated by the Second Vatican Council, the Church was invited to restore the celebrations of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation to their original order of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

This restored order helps us recognize that sharing in the Eucharist completes our initiation into the Church. As the norm, Confirmation preparation is to be integrated into the preparation for Eucharist.

The close connection between Baptism and Confirmation is also emphasized. The Sacrament of Confirmation, prepared for and celebrated together with First Eucharist in Third Grade, initiates the baptized ever more deeply into the Christian mystery of Trinitarian life.”

The Journey

Grades 4 and 5, who have completed their sacraments of initiation, meet all together for a program called THE JOURNEY which is a unique approach to Religious Education, designed to engage further those who have already received their sacraments of initiation, and are continuing their “Journey of Faith” as newly confirmed. Students are connected to our community and faith through videos, YouTube, music, meditations, interactive games and more.
